Como no Brasil existe uma grande coló[ô]nia italiana e porque a palavra “ciao” é francamente sonora, passou a ser corrente entre muitos brasileiros.
Como, infelizmente, não é possível apresentarmos a transcrição fonética adequada, tentaremos transmitir o que nos parece mais conveniente.

A pronúncia italiana é aproximadamente [txá-ò] e escreve-se “ciao”. É a redução da seguinte frase: “Io sono suo schiavo” [íò sónò súò skiávò] que significa «eu sou seu escravo». A tradução na Língua Portuguesa será: «Eu estou às suas ordens» ou «Eu estou servilmente às suas ordens».
