Dave Bowman: What's the problem?

"HAL 9000 -I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do."

Quero atuar consigo

"Lastly (...), in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood: and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago: and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering the happy summer days."
- Lewis Carroll, final do livro Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,1865

BLINDNESS

It is not love that is blind, but jealousy.
Lawrence Durrell, Justine, 1957.

BY HIS WORDS

"When you are cold and wet what else can warm you? Before an attack who can say anything that gives you the momentary well-being that rum does?"
Hemingway

EL PRESIDENTE Y PAPA

Boa escolha.

Grammarians and Their Ways

"When I read some of the rule for speaking and writing the English language correctly... I think -
any fool can make a rule
And every fool will mind it
"
Henry David Thoreau, Journal (1860)

"Sad study, grammar! Its whole content's one long string of accidents!"
Tony Harrison, Palladas: Poems

"Speech itself, indeed, would become almost impossible if the grammarians could follow their own rules unfailingly, and were always right."
H.L. Mencken,  The American Language (1921) Grammarians and Their Ways

A. P. Reverte (primeiras linhas do livro, descrevendo Diego Alatriste, capitão, mercenário e histórico perdedor).

PRIMEIRO O FIM

"You must study the endgame before everything else, for whereas the the endings can be studied and mastered by themselves, the middle game and the opening must be studied in relation to the endgame." -Capablanca

"I've often speculated why you don't return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Did you run off with a senator's wife? I like to think that you killed a man. It's the romantic in me."
- "It's a combination of all three."
- "What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?"
- "My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters."
- "The waters? What waters? We're in the desert."
- "I was misinformed."

You shouldn't ask me for advice. When it comes to relationships with women, I'm the winner of the August Strindberg Award.
